Gosport Methodist Church

Stoke Road, Gosport, PO12 1JB
Gosport Methodist Church is situated on Stoke Road in the heart of Gosport. Gosport is a town with an important naval history and a number of naval establishments are still operating within the town. Our church was rebuilt about 15 years ago so, although it looks traditional on the outside, the interior is modern and has been designed with a view to community use. A number of community organisations operate from our building.Gosport 1

Centenary Celebrations
In 2010, it will be 200 years since the first Methodist chapel was built in Gosport.
In 1910, a chapel was built on the current site. The church is celebrating throughout the coming year.

Fire
In 1979 our church suffered a disastrous fire that almost completely destroyed the building. It was later rebuilt, retaining the original shell but completely remodeling the interior to provide facilities that would be of more benefit to the community.

Sunday Services
Our main service on a Sunday is at 10.30, which includes our Junior Church activities and there is an evening service at 6.00 p.m. Download the Circuit Plan for further details.

Friends of Chernobyl’s Children Solent
This Charity is based at the our Church.
There is still much hardship in the Mogilov area of the country, with many people living in “high rise” apartments where they often share kitchens and bathrooms/toilets with several other families on the same floor. It is difficult for us in Hampshire to take these conditions on board. We anticipated that 14 children will be invited for next year, only one of whom has been before. All these children were met by our representatives on their recent visit. Most are from “one-parent” situations, (the other parent likely to have died due to cancer type problems), or from “Children’s Homes” where orphans are cared for. Please see attached report on the AGM.

Minister
The Minister for our Church is Rev. Vincent Canning
